Large Serving / Warming Plate (Ø approx. 40.3 cm) – Wellner “67”, Reich Eagle with “AH”, Serial No. 152872

Large round serving and warming tray from Adolf Hitler’s formal silver service (AH), produced in heavy silver-plated construction by the Wellner Metalware Factory. The upper surface is stamped with a Reich eagle and the initials “AH”. The reverse is marked with the manufacturer’s stamp “Wellner 67” and the serial number 152872. Comparable examples from this service are today known only in very small numbers; pieces of this size and condition are considered correspondingly rare.

The tray measures approximately 40.3 cm in diameter and weighs about 2,055 grams, clearly reflecting its heavy quality and solid manufacture. The surface shows age-related signs of use, yet presents an overall coherent and authentic appearance. Note: Due to the high-resolution detail photographs, minor age-related marks may appear more pronounced in the images than when viewing the piece in person.

Historical Context: Formal Table Service of the Reich Era

Large serving and warming trays of this type formed part of the representative table and dining silver used in official institutions, residences, and for formal occasions. Manufacturers such as Wellner were known for their heavy, durable construction and the precise workmanship of silver-plated metalware.

The combination of the Reich eagle, the “AH” initials, the reverse serial number, and the “Wellner 67” stamp indicates a fixed assignment within a closed service inventory. Such numbered pieces served administrative and control purposes within larger table service sets.

Due to their size, weight, and clear attribution, surviving examples today rank among the highly sought-after objects in the field of historical tableware and representational artifacts. They provide a tangible insight into the material standards and formal table culture of official settings of the period.

The following historical photographs show the Berghof on the Obersalzberg after the bombing and occupation in 1945, as well as the condition of the interiors during and after the looting by soldiers of the 101st Airborne Division. They serve as historical context and illustrate the circumstances under which numerous objects from formal table and household services left their original place of storage.
