Large Serving / Warming Plate (Ø approx. 40.3 cm) – Wellner “67”, Reich Eagle with “AH”, Serial No. 152872

Large round serving / warming platter from Adolf Hitler’s (AH) formal silver service, produced in a heavy, silver-plated finish by the Wellner Metalware Factory. The top side is embossed with a Reich eagle and the initials “AH”. On the reverse, the piece shows the maker’s mark “Wellner 67” as well as the serial number 152872. Comparable examples from this service are known today only in very small numbers; pieces of this size and in this condition are considered particularly scarce.

The platter has a diameter of approx. 40.3 cm and weighs about 2,055 grams, highlighting the heavy quality and solid manufacture. The surface shows age-related signs of use, but overall presents a coherent and authentic appearance. Note: Due to the high-resolution close-ups, fine age-related traces may appear more pronounced in photos than they do when viewing the original in hand.

Historical context: Formal table service of the period

Large serving and warming platters of this kind were part of the representative table and banqueting silver used in official facilities, residences, and formal occasions. Manufacturers such as Wellner were known for their heavy, durable quality and the precise workmanship of silver-plated metalware.

The combination of the Reich eagle, the initials “AH”, the reverse serial number, and the stamp “Wellner 67” indicates a clearly assigned position within a closed service inventory. Such numbered pieces served internal administration and control of larger service sets.

Due to their size, weight, and clear attribution, surviving examples are today among the sought-after objects within the field of historical table and representative items. They vividly document the material standards and the formal design language of official table culture of that era.

The following historical footage shows the Berghof on the Obersalzberg after the bombing and occupation in 1945, as well as the condition of the interiors during and after the looting by U.S. soldiers of the 101st Airborne Division. It serves for historical context and illustrates the circumstances in which many objects from the formal table and household service left their original place of storage.
