Wehrmacht Army (WH) Hanger for the General’s Dagger in Original Packaging
Wehrmacht Army (WH) hanger for the General’s dagger in original packaging. The hanger is executed in a gilded finish and was intended for the Army Officer’s Dagger or the dagger worn by Army generals. The overall length is approximately 28.0 cm. A rarely preserved accessory for completing or supplementing an Army Officer’s Dagger in general officer configuration.
Hanger: Gilded two-piece hanger with woven carrying straps and metal fittings. The fittings are decoratively executed and correspond to the higher-grade version for the Army General’s dagger. One fitting or snap hook is marked DRGM. The gilded surface is preserved and gives the hanger the typical appearance of the general officer version. One snap hook is broken on the reverse side.
Original Packaging: The hanger comes with its original packaging bearing the front-side printed inscription “Dolchgehänge”. On the side is the distributor or supplier marking “Heeres-Kleiderkasse Berlin W 62, Budapester Straße 28”. The original packing paper is still present inside the box. The original box underlines the complete and collector-relevant character of this accessory.
Special Features: Hangers for the Army General’s dagger are considerably less commonly encountered than regular Army dagger hangers. Of particular interest is the combination of gilded hanger, DRGM marking, original packaging with the printed inscription “Dolchgehänge”, the reference to the Heeres-Kleiderkasse Berlin and the preserved packing paper. The piece is especially suitable for completing an Army Officer’s Dagger in general officer configuration or as a stand-alone accessory within a collection.
Historical Background: Hanger for the Army General’s Dagger
The Army Officer’s Dagger Model 1935 formed part of the representative equipment of officers of the German Army. For generals, accessories were used in higher-grade or gilded execution, visually distinguishing them from the regular silver-colored versions. These included matching hangers for the dagger of Army generals.
The hanger was used to attach the dagger to the uniform and formed an essential part of the complete wearing equipment. In the general officer version, the gilded finish emphasized the higher rank and representative character of the dagger.
The Heeres-Kleiderkasse served as an important supply source for uniforms, equipment items and accessories. Original packaging with corresponding markings is of special collector interest today, as it documents the original distribution and sales context of an accessory.
Preserved hangers in original packaging are encountered far less often than loose carrying accessories. This example documents not only the wearing method of the Army General’s dagger, but also the contemporary issue or distribution form through the Heeres-Kleiderkasse Berlin.
