Historical Background: Polish Air Force Officer’s Dagger Model 1954
After the Second World War, military daggers were reintroduced in Poland for ceremonial and representative purposes. The Model 1954 was introduced for officers of the Polish Air Force and followed the general form of earlier Polish officer dagger traditions, particularly the Model 1924.
Characteristic features of the Air Force version include the silver-colored metal fittings and the red-and-white checkerboard emblem on the scabbard, a traditional insignia of the Polish Air Force.
The blade inscription “Honor i Ojczyzna” (“Honor and Fatherland”) represents one of the typical patriotic motifs found on Polish military daggers. These daggers primarily served as parade and presentation weapons for officers.
