SA Dagger [Sturm Abteilung], German - Gebruder Heller, Schmalkalden
This early SA Dagger is in untouched uncleaned condition and examining the tang nut it shows that the dagger has never been apart. The crossguards and tang nut are of solid nickel construction. The crossguard reverse is Gruppe marked Mi-Mitte (Mittelelbe). The grip is a fine fruitwood showing only normal usage. The reverse is basically perfect whereas the obverse has a couple of usage signs above the eagle at the right center but nothing serious. This grip is of medium contour construction and fits the grip perfectly except for the left lower meeting place where there is a slight shrinkage space. This grip has a perfect conditioned SA runes button and a solid nickel eagle. The scabbard shell is straight throughout. The scabbard mounts are nicely patinated exactly matching the crossguards. The lower ball is not dented but does have a couple of tiny little indents on the lower bottom of the ball only. These mounts are retained by early nickel screws which are all unturned. The obverse blade is still nice and bright and has most of the original graining in the surfaces. There are some in and out markings but overall the obverse is in near full mint condition. The SA motto is deeply etched and has about 98% of the original darkening in the backgrounds. A very nice blade here. A fine original untouched SA dagger.
