SA Dagger [Early Version] - Röttgen Ernst, Solingen
This Rottgen SA Dagger is a nice example remaining in completely
condition. The
solid nickel crossguards are in excellent condition throughout having
fine age toning and signs of greenish residue on the left reverse
crossguard quillon. These mounts are smooth with crisp edges and very
fine hand cut accent grooves. The grip appears to be of walnut being a very hard
wood. This grip has extremely crisp high ridge construction and feels
great when in the hand. The grip has fine graining which runs
lengthwise. It is in perfect condition throughout and fits the
crossguards like a rubber glove. The SA runes button is perfectly set
and has good enamel. The matching toned nickel grip eagle is the style
with beak which points upwards slightly. This bird retains full details
to his head, breast and wing feathering, talons, wreath and mobile
swastika. The reverse crossguard is Gruppe marked, P. A very fine
hilt here. Instead of a short hanger being in place the original grip retainer
loop and belt loop are attached to the hanger ring and apparently were
used to carry the dagger. The leather to both of these pieces is in
excellent condition. A nice leather accoutrement here. The blade is in bright condition being totally untouched but still
reflecting all of the crossgraining and minor in and out wear. This
blade grades in near full mint condition. The SA motto is extremely
dark in the backgrounds typical of this producer. The reverse ricasso
has the interesting etch trademark of this producer. The
blade shoulders perfectly meet the lower crossguard. A very nice out
of the woodwork.
