SA Dagger [Early Version] by C. Linder Solingen-Merscheid
This SA [Sturmabteilung] Dagger in Near Mint condition. Model 1933. The total length is 37.9 cm. Early Nickel fittings, lower guard with «Ns» stamp. The Dagger has the very rare (4.5 of 5) maker mark on the blade: C. Linder Solingen-Merscheid.
Grip: The grip is very fine, showing no usage and with High Contour construction. It is a nice chestnut colored wood with a very good looking subsurface grain. The SA runes button is nicely set and retains perfect enamel. The nickel grip eagle is the “High Necked” style. This fine looking bird retains full detailing throughout the head, breast and wing feathering, talons and wreathed mobile swastika. The lower reverse guard is Gruppe marked, «Ns» Lower Saxony. The nickel mounts have a very fine, dull patination and remain in very fine shape throughout.
Blade: The blade is first-rate, in fully mint condition and with 100% of the original crossgrain. The tip remains needle-like. The reverse is marked “C. Linder / Solingen / Meerscheid”. The blade shoulders perfectly meet the lower crossguard contour. This logo is not seen very often, rating a 4.5 of 5. The blade shoulders perfectly meet the contours of the lower guard.
Scabbard: The scabbard shell is also a beauty. It appears to have a brown painted surface as opposed to being “anodized”. There are occasions on which we do see the use of brown paint and it is totally original. This paint remains nearly 100% intact, with just a little modest wear on the reverse. The scabbard mounts have a matching patination and are all in perfect condition. The four original screws are all in place and unturned. Attached to the carrying ring is the original short hanger. This hanger has excellent leather and is complete with the small retainer loop. The hardware is of nickel, with a conventional snap clip. The clip is marked “A” and “DRGM” on the back, and was installed with the snap at the reverse.
