Imperial German Prussian Officer’s Sword Degen 1889 by Gustav Schernick Berlin

This Imperial German Prussian Officer’s Sword Degen (Württemberg) is in EXC++ condition and with german distributor maker Gustav Schernick Berlin.

Grip: The grip is totally intact and in very fine condition. This grip is tightly wrapped with a skein of triple twist brass wire, the center strand being of larger proportion. The basket flows downward into an open area which features a crowned Prussian (Württemberg) eagle grasping a scepter as well as a sword. There is a leather finger loop in place, having a white color.

Blade: The 87 cm long blade is forged of genuine damascus steel, being the "Maiden-hair" design. The damascus pattern is very prominent and impressive. About half of both sides of the blade are covered with raised and gilded embellishments. The gild work still remains at near 100%. The ricasso cited the word, "Damast-Stahl". The spine is also gilded and features raised laurel leaves and the producers name,"Gustav Schernick Berlin".
