German Red Cross Leader Dagger with Hangers and Portepee

This Red Cross Officer's Dagger is in truly fine condition, having a really great outside, with portepee. The nickel plated parts are all in perfect condition throughout the hilt, to include the edges of the pommel. The cover nut on top of the pommel appears to have been out once or twice. The crossguard features the oval disk depiction on both sides, the reverse being blank, and the obverse depicting a Red Cross eagle, with half open wings, and swastika raised out of his chest. The swastika has been restored. The bird grasps a Geneva Conference Cross in his talons. The grip is a pleasing, grapefruit yellow color, being in perfect condition throughout. The scabbard is as straight as an arrow. It has excellent nickel plating, which is perfect on the obverse, and on the reverse, there is a small age mark, but no rust, just under the upper carrying band. The panels have good, crisp, raised, pebbling, and the bands are the more round type. The throat is retained by two dome head screws, which are both in place. The original 42cm aluminum portepee is in place, and is in the Red Cross tie. This knot is the fatter cord style and other than a little age shows no fraying and no problems whatsoever. This set of Red Cross Officer's Hangers measures over 12 inches in length. The brocade is still in nice condition featuring dual bullion lines that run the length which are highlighted with red stitching. The bullion is free of any stains. The reverse has the gray color high pile velvet and shows no wear areas. The hardware is the all aluminum type. The top clip is unmarked. The buckles and slides are plain having an oval shape to the buckles. The snap clips are also plain type being the standard push in type with rectangular tops. Overall a very fine set of Red Cross officer straps. The blade mint is an outstanding example, being in mint condition. This blade has all of its crossgraining, with a choice, needle like tip. The ricasso is nickel plated, as they normally will be on Red Cross blades. This mint blade has been protected by an in place, brown leather buffer.
