Purchase: Army Officer's Dagger with Double Etched Blade by Alexander Coppel (ALCOSO), Solingen

Coppel Alexander ALCOSO Solingen

Army Officer's Dagger with Double Etched Blade This Army Officer's Dagger is an absolutely textbook Alcoso piece. Model 1935. The total length is 39.7 cm. The Dagger has the maker mark on the blade: ALCOSO ACS Solingen.

Grip: The silvering is still quite good throughout the piece. The crossguard still looks excellent. The fourteen standing oak leaves separated by acorns have good hand enhancement. The upper portion of the pommel appears to have all of the silvering. The crossguard is often little detail remaining to the head and breast of the bird, and this is somewhat the case with this particular example. The wing feathering, talons, wreath, and raised mobile swastika still have good detail. The reverse of the crossguard still has good silvering. This solid celluloid grip is in excellent condition.

Blade: The beautiful, classic blade is in near mint condition having all of its original nickel-plated surfaces with fabulous frosted backgrounds highlighting the raised areas. The obverse section of the blade leaves a panel in the center which is reserved for an inscription: Dem Regimentsadjutant beim Marsch auf Moskau 1.10.40 - 31.10.41. Next to the wreath on both sides respectively are sprigs of oak leaves and acorns. The reverse blade repeats the pattern with 2nd center panel: Der Kommandeur J.R. 468 Oberst. The reverse ricasso is etched with the 1940-41style trademark used by Alcoso. It features the scales with the initials, "ACS" interspersed. To the right of the scales, "Alcoso" is written in script, positioned over a block-lettered "Solingen". The original large-sized leather blade buffer is in place.

Scabbard: The scabbard has matching patination, and is an early steel type. The pebbling is still in excellent condition, and both sides are nice and straight. The carrying bands are embellished with overlapping oak leaves which do have hand-enhancing to the vein, but so show a little bit of wear on the surfaces. The thicker style throat is retained by one dome-head back screw.
