Purchase: SA Dagger [Early Version] by Carl Grah Solingen-Ohligs

Grah Carl, Solingen-Ohligs

This SA [Sturmabteilung] Dagger in Near Mint condition. Model 1933. The total length is 37.7 cm. Early Nickel fittings, lower guard with «Nm» stamp. The Dagger has the very rare maker mark on the blade: Carl Grah Solingen-Ohligs.

Grip: The grip is a High Ridge type constructed from a dark wood. There is some subtle wood grain visible on this grip, but you have to look closely to see it. This grip fits the guards perfectly. The SA runes button is in fine condition, having perfect enamel. The nickel grip eagle is the “High Necked” type; there is some wear to the head of this bird, but the remainder of the detailing remains crisp. This fine SA Dagger has a very nice, dull, even patination spread across the nickel mounts. The tang nut does not appear to have every been removed, and the guards themselves are in choice condition throughout. The lower reverse guard is Gruppe marked, “Nm”.

Blade: The blade of this dagger is in mint condition, with 100% of the original crossgrain and a needle-like tip. The SA motto is very dark on this blade. The reverse ricasso has the rarely seen logo of this firm; a double ellipse encloses the name and location of the firm, “Carl Grah Soligen-Ohligs”. In the center is a propellor monoplane. This logo is not seen very often, rating a 4,5 of 5. The blade shoulders perfectly meet the contours of the lower guard.

Scabbard: The scabbard shell is straight throughout. The “anodized” finish on this scabbard is a bit darker than normal, and appears to all be there. There is some minor surface age but it is not bad. The scabbard mounts are in choice condition throughout to the lower ball and are retained by the four original unturned screws.
