SA Dagger [Early Version] with Hanger by Willh. Kober & Co., Suhl
This SA [Sturmabteilung] Kober Dagger in NEAR MINT condition. Model 1933. The total length is 37.1 cm. Early Nickel fittings, lower guard with "TH" stamp. The Dagger has very rare maker mark on the blade: Willh. Kober & Co., Suhl.
Grip: The walnut grip is a beauty, with lots of wood grain in the surfaces and an appealing pattern of contrasting color tones in the surface. It is of High Ridge construction and in perfect condition. The SA runes button is nicely placed and has excellent enamel, while the nickel grip eagle is fully detailed throughout. It is the style with the upward pointing beak. The crossguards are in the Suhl style, with the characteristic upward pointing quillon ends on the lower guard. These guards have excellent smooth surfaces, with well-defined edges and sharply cut accent grooves. The lower reverse guard is gruppe marked “Th”.
Blade: The blade of this example remains nice and bright. This blade has 100% of the original graining, and is in Near Mint condition. The SA motto is extremely dark, having 100% of the original blacking in the recesses of the letters. The reverse ricasso is etched with the firm's name and location, “Wilh. Kober & Co. Suhl” contained with ovals. Inside a logo in the form the the mythical Greek centaur, set above the start-up date “Gegr. 1874”.
Scabbard: The scabbard shell is straight throughout. The anodized finish on this shell is really in fine condition. There are also traces of protective lacquer clinging to the areas that were protected by the mounts. The mounts are also choice through to the lower ball. They exactly match the patination of the crossguards, and are retained by four nickel screws.
