Luftwaffe Dagger [M1935] by E. & F. Hörster Co. Solingen

This Hörster 1st Model Aluminum Luftwaffe Dagger is in top condition throughout and in a remarkable state of preservation. Model 1935. The total length is 49.5 cm. The Dagger has the maker mark on the blade: E. & F. Hörster Co. Solingen.

Grip: The outstanding pommel has a great satin finish, with perfect rims on both sides. The sunwheels have bright gilding throughout which remains 100% intact. The sunwheels on the crossguard are in similar condition. The Hörster firm did very bright gilding. The crossguard arms extend downward in three segments, giving the look of a pair of wings in flight. The grip is of carved wood and is covered in original Moroccan leather. This leather has good grain and is tightly wrapped with wire.

Blade: The blade of this piece is a 310 mm example. It is a real beauty, being in mint condition, with highest quality nickel-plated surfaces. This beautiful blade is etched with the familiar Hörster trademark, the intertwined letters “HHS” pierced with a downward pointing sword. The blade is protected by the mint condition matching leather blade buffer.

Scabbard: The scabbard shell is as straight. The leather covering is in a EXC++ condition. The leather grain nicely matches that seen on the grip. The satin aluminum scabbard mounts are also perfect. They show no signs of wear and have beautiful finish, being retained by headless side screws which are in-placed and unturned. The matching aluminum chain is also a real beauty. It is equipped with 6 upper and 8 lower ringlets, the rig being attached to a fine aluminum snap clip. This snap clip retains the original lacquer over the finish and is marked “OLC” and “GES GESCH” on the reverse.
