Panther Head Army Sabre by Carl Eickhorn Solingen

This Panther Head Sword is a pattern that is rarely seen. Maker on the blade is Original Eickhorn Solingen.

Grip: The grip is of carved wood with a covering of black celluloid. This celluloid is in perfect condition, retaining the fine original sheen. The grip is very tightly wrapped with triple strands of aluminum wire, the center strand being twisted. The hilt is constructed with an aluminum base but has 100% of the original gilded finish; it is really a beauty! The panther head is finely detailed and shows evidence of hand enhancement throughout the teeth, whiskers and brow, as well as to the mane which flow partially down the backstrap. The cat is fitted with blood red faceted “jewel” eyes and really has a great look. The backstrap has oak leaf and floral designs with a four petaled flower in the center. The grip tabs have distinctive swirls on each side. The “D” guard has the usual raised, overlapping oak leaves that run down the surfaces. The reverse crossguard has a raised oval disk meant to bear a monogram. The obverse guard features an open-winged Army eagle which looks to the viewer's left. Good detail remains throughout this bird and he grasps a wreathed mobile swastika. The ferrule is a typical example, featuring oak leaves running throughout the surface.

Blade: The 85 cm blade of this example is of highest quality, with an excellent nickel-plated finish, the blade is in Mint condition. The reverse ricasso is stamped “Original Eickhorn Solingen”. The original brown leather blade buffer is in place.

Scabbard: The scabbard is nice and straight throughout. This scabbard has excellent original black paint. All of this paint is at least about 95% intact.
