Hitler Youth Leader Dagger by RZM M7/66 (Eickhorn)

This Hitler Youth (HJ) Leader Dagger by RZM is in near mint condition. Model 1937 for Leader. The total length is 35.0 cm. The Dagger has the rzm code on the blade:  RZM M7/66 (Carl Eickhorn Solingen).

Grip: The grip of this dagger is constructed with a base of carved wood wrapped in tightly twisted silvered wire. The upper portion of the one piece pommel is somewhat lacking in terms of plating. It features a raised out HJ diamond and swastika. There is some age darkening that surrounds the diamond. The pommel has the usual hand-cut rope design running around the circumference and is retained by a pair of brads. The crossguard is the usual aluminum-based type. It is amazing that all of the silvering is still present on the upper and lower portions of the guard. It appears to have some age on the obverse edge, which has the same rope design as the pommel. The ferrule is typical of this type of dagger, with a single accent line running around the upper portion.

Blade: The blade of this dagger is exceptional. This beautiful mint blade has quality nickel plating, with a mirror finish and a needle-like tip. The center of the obverse blade is etched with the HJ motto, “BLUT UND EHRE!”, in block letters. All of the factory darkening is present in the backgrounds of the etching. The reverse ricasso is etched with double RZM circles positioned over the code of the Carl Eickhorn firm, “RZM M7/66”. The original leather washer is in excellent condition and is firmly in place.

Scabbard: The one piece scabbard is nice and straight. The leather is very finely grained and looks good. The upper portion of the scabbard features the HJ eagle on the obverse. This bird has open wings and a swastika engraved on his breast. It looks to the viewer's right, grasping a sword in his right talon and a hammer in his left. The detail throughout this bird is excellent. Below the eagle are more rope-like designs, which also appear on the center ramp and the upper portion of the lower mount. All of the mounts are in excellent condition, retaining their original silvering. The upper pair of mounts have smooth, round eyelets and matching silvered carrying rings.
