DLV Officer Dagger [55cm] by J.A. Henckels Solingen

This extremly rare DLV Officer Dagger [First Model] is in EXC+ condition. The total length is 55.0 cm. Blade with Maker J.A. Henckels Solingen.

Grip:  The grip of this example has a carved wood base and is covered with fine blue Moroccan leather. When this dagger was produced, the grip had distinct ribs, but wire wrap was not included. The grip leather is in perfect condition. All mounts reflect a deep, never-cleaned patina throughout. The pommel is an outstanding example showing no hits to either of the edges. The inlaid gilded swastika on both sides is a beauty being completely flush with the rest of the pommel. The crossguard features a square center block also incorporating inlaid swastikas on both sides. The center block edges are still crisp throughout. The crossguard wings of the Henckels design are unique.

Blade: The blade of this piece is a 385 mm example, being in EXC+ condition, with highest quality nickel-plated surfaces. This blade is stamped with the J.A. Henckels Zwillingswerk Solingen trademark.

Scabbard: The scabbard shell is a composition base covered with matching blue Moroccan leather. There is no steel in this scabbard base. This leather still remains in near mint condition. All of the original grain is still prominent on this leather. The shell has three silvered, nickel-based mounts. All have scalloped edges where they meet the shell. The mounts are secured by staples. All mounts are in perfect condition. The lower chape area is also unique to DLV dirks having four tapered segments resembling a rattlesnake tail; standard 1st Lufts' have three segments. Attached to the two carrying rings is a fine nickel chain. The ringlets look to have slightly less heft than the standard later types. The upper assembly has nine ringlets and the lower has fourteen. They are connected to the rings with "S" clips.
